Perfectionism Is Multidimensional : a reply to Shafran , 43 Cooper and Fairburn ( 2002 )
نویسنده
چکیده
51 Shafran et al. (2002) provided a cognitive-behavioural analysis of perfectionism that focused primarily 52 on self-oriented perfectionism. They argued against studying perfectionism from a multidimensional per53 spective that they regard as inconsistent with prior work on perfectionism as a self-oriented phenomenon. 54 We respond to Shafran et al. (2002) by offering historical, empirical, and theoretical support for the useful55 ness and the importance of a multidimensional model of perfectionism involving both intrapersonal pro56 cesses and interpersonal dynamics. It is concluded that a multidimensional approach to the study of perfec57 tionism is still warranted. 58 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

متن کاملThe Clinical Perfectionism Questionnaire: Further evidence for two factors capturing perfectionistic strivings and concerns
The construct of clinical perfectionism, conceptualized as a one-dimensional construct (Shafran, Cooper, & Fairburn, 2003), has drawn considerable debate because of the associated critique of multidimensional perfectionism’s relevance for clinical theory and research. Hence Dickie, Surgenor, Wilson, and McDowall’s (2012) finding that the Clinical Perfectionism Questionnaire (CPQ), designed to m...
متن کاملClinical perfectionism: a cognitive-behavioural analysis.
This paper reviews the characteristics of clinical perfectionism and proposes a new definition of the phenomenon. It is suggested that the defining feature of clinically significant perfectionism is the overdependence of self-evaluation on the determined pursuit (and achievement) of self-imposed personally demanding standards of performance in at least one salient domain, despite the occurrence...
